Benjamin was born in September 2001, at the same time as his twin sister Hannah. Unlike Hannah, however, Benjamin entered the world with a congenital cardiac disease. He spent the first two weeks in the intensive care unit of the Montreal Children’s Hospital. At five weeks of age, Benjamin underwent his first open-heart surgery. Five months later, he returned to the operating room. By the time he was two years old, he faced a third major open-heart surgical intervention to replace a valve.

Here seven-year-old, Benjamin is a healthy and happy, is in grade one, and loves to skate, play golf, and, of course, test his video game skills to the max. He is a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens. Benjamin still faces cardiac problems, and he will need to undergo more surgeries, but one thing is clear: he is a fighter, and he’s learned to embrace each day that life offers him.
